EPIC Sports, Inc., a youth basketball program dedicated to developing the skills and interpersonal values of young athletes throughout New York City, has officially launched in the Upper West Side. Founded by philanthropist and basketball fanatic Rose Caiola, EPIC has recruited some of the city's finest coaching talent to head up its program and strengthen the skills of young participants through a series of specialized classes catering to students in grades 1 through 12.
EPIC Sports capitalizes on the organization's inherent philosophy of fun and equality through fundamental training and team building exercises, each designed to hone in on the most crucial skills needed for both on and off the court. These range from instruction in the most basic skills, such as dribbling and shooting on a novice level, to speed and endurance-based high intensity training on the advanced level. EPIC Sports has also instituted a specialized scholarship program to grant a fair opportunity for children who otherwise would not have the means to participate. The program provides 50% of its student body with these benefits, while also giving kids the chance to participate in travel and AAU basketball leagues throughout New York.
"We're really excited to officially open our doors to young athletes throughout New York City who are looking for a fun and challenging experience in a safe environment tailored to fostering a spirit of confidence, character, integrity, and core values," said Rose Caiola, President, EPIC Sports, Inc. "EPIC's mission is to build a diverse community of student athletes who are disciplined, selfless, and respectful, not only to the sport of basketball, but in everyday life."
In addition to serving as EPIC's President, Rose Caiola is also the Founder and Executive Artistic Director of Manhattan Movement & Arts Center (MMAC), a state-of-the-art dance fitness and performance facility near Lincoln Center, which is also home to the nation's premiere non-profit classical ballet academies, Manhattan Youth Ballet. Caiola has also distinguished herself as a veteran Broadway producer with the historic revival of "Godspell" in 2011 and the Tony Award winning "All the Way," starring Bryan Cranston.
